Town Audit and Financial Concerns
The Select Board of Rick Emery, Brian Fortier and Frank Day, along with Town Treasurer Lynn Boyle and RHR Smith Auditors, brought town finances up-to-date, with many corrections after years of inaccuracies.
When this SB took office, the Town of Brownfield was suffering serious financial uncertainties due to mismanagement. State audits are legally required to be submitted for every Fiscal Year. The last completed audit for Fiscal Years 2019/2020 was posted June 2020 with an “unfavorable” letter from the Auditor. There were no audits submitted between 2020 and 2025 due to the Auditor being unable to access the numbers.
Thanks to the persistence of Selectmen Rick Emery, Brian Fortier and Frank Day, and their support of our current Treasurer/Tax Collector Lynn Boyle and Town Hall staff, we now have completely accurate and corrected numbers, plus audits for the town are up to date.
